The 12.4 MP backlit CMOS image sensor delivers high-quality, high-resolution images. A state-of-the-art, high-speed Q ENGINE effectively minimizes noises at all ISO sensitivity levels for fine-textured images, even at ISO 12800. Get outstanding autofocus accuracy in low light and pinpoint focus, even at the faintest light level (EV 0).

The Quick Dial also lets you assign as many as four favorite functions, including Smart Effects, Aspect Ratio, AF/MF switching, focus assist ON/OFF and ND filter ON/OFF, for instant mode switching.

large, 3.0 inch LCD monitor with anti-reflection

The Q-S1 features a high-resolution 3.0 inch 3:2 proportion LCD monitor with approx. 460,000 dots. Its AR (Anti-Reflection) coating effectively minimizes glare and reflections on-screen to produce sharp, bright images even under bright sunshine. The wide-view design lets you see the image from 170 degrees horizontally and vertically, giving you a clear view of the on-screen image, even when facing the monitor from an angle.

effortless bokeh control

The Q-S1's unique Bokeh Control function lets you make a subject stand out by automatically assessing the relative distance between the in-focus subject and obtrusive objects in the field of view. This function simplifies the advanced, SLR-caliber technique of intentional defocusing, so even first-time digital shooters can effortlessly capture high-quality images with beautifully defocused foregrounds and backgrounds.

the tools to create personalized images

(1) A Custom Image function adds distinctive finishing touches to help express your creative intent, or reproduce the ambience of a specific scene. Select one of 11 custom image modes; Bleach Bypass produces a dramatic, movie-like finish. (2) A Digital Filter function lets you apply a variety of visual effects without a computer. Enjoy 17 total options including 11 filters (i.e., Toy Camera, Invert Color, Posterization) that you can apply for stills or movie clips.* Apply multiple filters to a single image to produce more creative effects. (3) Select a Smart Effect from the Quick Dial to easily add a desired finishing touch to an image, while previewing the applied effect on the LCD monitor. From nine Smart Effect modes (i.e., Antique for nostalgic looks or Fade Color for a chic, faded-color finish) you can assign four favorite modes to the dial in advance.
